HEYA !!
Hi, I'm Banu Munnangi

MY JOURNEY
Holaaaaa, wassup ??
I’m Banu Munnangi — data scientist by profession, curious human by design.

My story doesn’t start with a laptop and a Kaggle notebook. It starts with concrete, steel, and earthquakes. I studied Civil Engineering at NIT Warangal — nine-pointer, thank you very much — and thought I’d spend my life designing skyscrapers or maybe bridges that wouldn’t shake during a Richter 7. Then came seismic analysis, a ton of spreadsheet modelling… and a lightbulb moment: “Wait — this data is way more interesting than the concrete.”
That was it. No grand pivot. Just a growing obsession with numbers that spoke, patterns that predicted, and models that explained the world better than most people could.
What started with tremors turned into a full-blown career in data science — and somehow led me deep into the world of insurance, specifically Credit & Surety. You’d think insurance would be dry, right? But here’s the secret: it’s one of the most complex, data-rich playgrounds you could ask for. You’re not just predicting defaults or pricing risk — you’re trying to understand human and economic behaviour wrapped in regulation and pressure.
Throughout my journey so fat, I’ve led projects that pushed the edge of what's possible:
— Built GenAI agents that write credit memos before underwriters can blink.
— Automated reinsurance workflows that used to take weeks.
— Collaborated with Prof. Dimitris Bertsimas (MIT) on predictive models for contract bond defaults.
— Designed scoring engines that identify regional tender hotspots and signal when a client might need us — before they even know it.

I’m also the kind of person who reads academic papers on brain-computer interfaces for fun, debates the Fermi paradox over coffee, and dives headfirst into topics like computational biology, drug interactions, and genetic engineering just because why not?

The throughline? Curiosity. I love building systems — especially agentic workflows — where intelligent components talk to each other, adapt, learn, and actually help people make better decisions. Whether it's a credit risk simulator or a multi-agent underwriting assistant, I get a kick out of designing how it all moves.

Outside work, I chase the unknown in other ways — hiking trails without Google Maps, reading sci-fi that messes with your sense of reality, or signing up for something slightly riskier than my underwriters would prefer.

At the core of it all, I believe great technology doesn’t just solve problems — it tells stories, makes people’s lives easier, and occasionally, leaves them saying: “Wait, that’s possible?” And that’s what I’m here to build.
